- Sugarless Coffee
- M. Hariharamahadevan
This is the seventh of the series on the subject. The sugarless coffee is not a drink, but a metaphor, with the message how the core values are pushed to the background retaining only the likable, favourably taken as advantageous to the moments.
I use to go for walking at the nice beach at Thiruvanmiyur nearer to my second daughter's place, to whom I visit at weekends. I use to observe an old man, above seventy on the beachside. I had great admiration for that old man. He will do all the pranayama meticulously, by the side of the beach road called ECR Beach road, well laid by the walkers' association (a nice gesture indeed). I was wondering at his concern for health at that age. I was all praise for that old man.
When I was talking about that person one day, I was ridiculed by a walker at that place. "Pl wait till he finishes his yoga and observe his action after that" he told. I did. I was shocked to see him smoking two to three cigarettes immediately after that. He was found to keep a cigarette pocket by his side, which I could notice after close examination.
Whatever good health he regained by the yoga all went in vain after the smoking. The purpose behind the yoga went waste. I am not eligible to give my piece of advice. I am not a party to that as well. Any how, I prayed for his wellbeing. There are many who are like this old man.
They leave off the grain retaining the husk. A sugarless coffee indeed.
