Be Honest, Be Helping Too
by The Editor

Dear Well Wishers,

            Shri K.M. Subramanian
We are starting a new feature called Be Honest, Be Helping Too from this issue, which may be continued for a few months. This will be a tribute for my uncle cum father-in-law Late Shri K.M. Subramanian affectionately called as KMS in his friend circle. A retired Chief Educational Officer in Tamil Nadu Government Service, he was one among the few, whose precept and practice matched well.

I am starting this feature as a mark of my tribute for that noble soul whose birthday falls in the month of June and he can be a source of inspiration for many. I have great respect and emulation with that soul. He was the one who firmly believed that honesty without helping tendency is useless. He termed that as Kombu then (meaning the honey at the top branch of a tree). Who can benefit from that honey? It is useless for any. What a unique concept?

There are many who are very honest but without helping any. They will always quote the rules for not doing a particular task. KMS was the one who advocated the concept that it is better to bend the rules for helping a deserving. Bending a rule is different from breaking the rule. When there are innumerable government officials who often quote the rules in not fulfilling the task, KMS was the one who would search for the loop holes, so that a deserving soul can be helped. Loop holes are not for taking shelter for the unscrupulous but for finding a place for helping the needy, he used to quote. He was the one who put all his efforts to render his helping hand in whatever possible ways he could. Many a times he had volunteered to help the needy and he derived immense pleasure in that. For him the joy of living is the joy of serving. He was standing as an example for that.

The subsequent issues will throw more light on the noble ideals of this great soul.
