Be Honest, Be Helping Too
by The Editor

Dear Well Wishers,

            Shri K.M. Subramanian
We have started a new feature called Be Honest, Be Helping Too from last issue. This will be a tribute for my uncle cum father-in-law Late Shri K.M. Subramanian affectionately called as KMS in his friend circle. A retired Chief Educational Officer in Tamil Nadu Government Service, he was one among the few, whose precept and practice matched perfectly well.

There are innumerous many who had been helped by him, be it getting a job for self or his/her wards. He would see to it that job is finished to the end. His follow up will be to the core. He won’t rest till the mission is achieved. He would draft the letter very meticulously, bringing forth the arguments in coherence, so that no officer can turn down it so easily. His thoroughness in the rules and the excellent written communication would be an emulation for the present day government officials and even private, where many are not able to write simple English.

His knowledge about the history and geography of the places be it in Tamil Nadu or other states or even parts of other countries, was tremendous. If you name a place or person, words will pour out from his mouth on the details in spontaneity. Such a memory power he was possessing, which is in rarity.

If any file was coming to him, he used to say, "I would go thru it thoroughly, and I would take action immediately." "After all, people send the details for quick action not for postponement" he used to comment. It would indeed be a lesson for the present day officials, where many pursue for postponement or disposal without any redressal of their grievances. He would see with his caring eyes if there would be any loopholes for help to the needy. When rules are now used for exploiting for personal gains, not for enforcing, he was one among the very few, who used the rules and sometimes its loop holes for helping the needy, without getting a paise from the concerned. In fact there were so many occasions to my knowledge where he had spent from his pocket for the people coming to him for help. There are many who got benefitted from this noble soul who named their sons after his name Subramanian. There are many who are still remembering the soul even after say fifty years. When gratefulness is the word that finds no place in today's dictionary of many, these people stand apart, because of the uniqueness and exemplary qualities of the noble soul KMS. Noble souls are ever remembered. KMS, the noble soul is in that unique list.
