Penning down my thoughts
Harihara Mahadevan

Editorial of August 2010

Dear Well Wishers,

Much delighted to be among you through this nineteenth issue of Shantham. Hope you are enjoying the contents. I had been there at Ayikudi , a small village near the famous summer resort, Courtallam, known for its falls. On behalf of the trust, conducted the following training programmes:

1. Team building programme(two batches) for the employees of Amar Seva Sangam, an NGO started by a handicapped person Ramakrishnan, who was known to me since its inception, which has grown into a big NGO, winning many laurels from the State & Central Governments and many voluntary service organisations of repute.

2. Two programmes on Goal setting for the IX & X std students organized by Sri Subramanya Charitable Trust, Ayikudi Both the programmes were well received and they created interest with the participants. It was very heartening to note that Mr.Ramakrishnan who is running that trust was conducting the parents –teachers meet in a more professional way. When I was observing that meet, I asked my self, how the villages in India would be if every body emulated the interest and commitment shown by Mr Ramakrishnan, towards the studies and future of students in schools.

Another point of interest, I want to share with the readers, about the most philanthropic act of an auto driver Mr. John, who gave the entire collection of a particular day, when a poor mother was coming in his auto to take treatment for his school going child for jaundice. On hearing the news that they need money for the treatment, he gave the collection made so far to the mother. A real Dharma, indeed, which, reminded me of a story in Mahabharatha, narrating the act of a goose which was underestimating the Ashwametha Yaha done by Yudhishtra. It was all praise of the act of a poor Brahmin family who gave all the Roti they had for an athithi( guest) despite their being very much hungry and getting some roti after a long time. Half of the skin of that goose was turned into gold when it rolled down the roti flower remained on the floor of that poor Brahmin , the remaining, would also turn with a similar noble act, it was longing for. It was not turned even with the sand in the land of Yuthishtra. While I was coming in that auto, this old goose was narrating that act of goose in Mahabharatha. Our acts of vanity cannot stand before the act of that auto driver.

Many are enquiring more on the magazine. Pl spread the message around, so that benefit can reach the masses.

Wish you a blissful reading.
