Sugarless Coffee
M. Hariharamahadevan

This is the eleventh of the series on the subject. The sugarless coffee is not a drink, but a metaphor, with the message, how the core values are pushed to the background retaining only the likable, favourably taken as advantageous to the moments.

I was reading an article in Tamil recently. After the use of cell phone, much has been changed in our life style - the true relationship as well. When we take the cell phone, the first thing we ask is where are you not the old enquiry like how are you? The lip slip relationship is on the cards. I could taste that bitter, when I was undergoing the loneliness after my beloved wife Shantha’s death in my flat at Vadapalani. The neighbours whom we have helped a lot when Shantha was alive, did not bother to see whether this lone widower was alive or not. When they were away from Chennai, customary call after enquiry about the tapals or courier received for them, will say pl don’t hesitate to ask for any help. When they were nearer to me in the next flat, no visit or call nothing. Dont hesitate to ask for any help-this should have come from bottom most heart. But comes from lips only. A lip service is the order of the day. The true relationship is thrown to the background. There is more vanity than sanity in today’s relationships.

The husk is retained and the grain is discarded. Sugarless coffee indeed.

(We will be stopping this feature with this issue . God willing, we will be continuing later.)
